In a weekend packed with plenty of
new movie options, it was Matt Damon's Elysium that ultimately rose
above the rest.
The sci-fi drama beat out the
competition, but not by as big of a margin as you'd expect. Elysium
brought in a respectable $30 million but the Jennifer Aniston/Jason Sudeikis
comedy, We're The Millers, which had not so great reviews, was right
on its tails with $26 million.
Even more amazing, Disney's Planes managed
to bring home $22 million, and the universally panned Percy Jackson:
Sea of Monsters, $14 million.
Notably, for the first time, in a
while, the top four movies were all first week premieres. Last week's 2
Guns rounded out the top 5 with $11 million.
